MediaTek has announced the launch of its latest system-on-chip (SoC) for budget and mid-range of smartphones. Dubbed as MediaTek Helio P22, the processor is currently in production and it is expected to be available in the upcoming smartphones by the end of Q2 2018.
This is the first mid-range Chipset from the company’s arsenal that is build using TMSC 12nm FinFET process. The latest chipset can support 20:9 HD+ display with a screen resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels. The processor features a 64-bit octa cores ARM Cortex-A53 clocked at 2.0GHz coupled with the latest MG PowerVR GE8320 GPU running up to a 650MHz.
The SoC can support up to 6GB of LPDDR3/LPDDR4 RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage. On the camera front, the Helio P22 could feature up to 21-Megapixel single camera module or up to 13-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual camera setup. The cameras could deliver bokeh effects and the chipset also comes equipped with electronic image stabilization with a new Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) engine. For low-light performance, the chipset is equipped with multi-frame noise reduction and clear-image zoom technology.
Further, the camera automatically minimize aliasing, grain, and provides defect/distortion correction techniques. 3A includes MediaTek’s Instant Auto Exposure (AE): anti-overexposure hardware with accurate point focusing. The Instant AE is powered by a hardware Camera Control Unit (CCU) that delivers considerably faster-focusing exposure adjustment when environmental lighting conditions change suddenly.
The latest MediaTek processor also brings 4G LTE WorldMode modem for dual 4G SIM support with VoLTE/ViLTE on upcoming Android smartphones. Fo AI features, it features Face ID (Face Unlock), Smart Photo Album, and Single-Cam/Dual-Cam Bokeh. The MediaTek NeuroPilot support many common AI frameworks, and full compliance with Android Neural Networks API (Android NNAPI). On the connectivity front, the latest processor supports dual 4G VoLTE, Beidou, Galileo, Glonass, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, FM Radio, and WiFi a/b/n/ac.
