Xiaomi announced a surprise addition to the upper budget segment of smartphones with the launch of the Poco F1 device under a new Poco branding. Debuting by the end of August last year, the Poco F1 has been on the receiving end of praises since its launch and now sells for a starting price of Rs 19,999 after receiving a permanent price cut of Rs 1,000 last month.

The Poco F1 features a 6.18-inch Full notch display with 2246 x 1080 pixel resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 845 with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There is a dual rear camera setup with a combination of 12-megapixel primary Sony IMX363 sensor with dual pixel autofocus, with dual Flash, 1.4μm pixel size and a 5-megapixel secondary Samsung sensor. It has a 20-megapixel selfie camera along with support for IR face unlock feature. The device is backed up by 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.

Huawei Honor Play (4GB + 64GB)

Huawei also launched its own version of a budget smartphone with a flagship chipset during the month of August 2018. The device can be purchased for a price of Rs 19,999, putting it as the direct competitor of the Poco F1 smartphone.

The Honor Play features a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display and it is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset with ARM Mali-G72 MP12 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. For optics, the phone features 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor at the back, while for the front, there is a 16-megapixel shooter. The phone is backed by 3750mAh battery and it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo, which is based on EMUI 8.1.

Nokia 6.1 Plus (4GB + 64GB)

To compete with the likes of Xiaomi and Huawei, HMD Global brought in the Nokia 6.1 Plus for a price of 15,999, launching around the same period as that of the Poco F1 and Honor Play.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus features 5.8-inch Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels with 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box operating system. The phone has 3060 battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. For the camera, the smartphone has a 16MP + 5MP dual rear camera and a 16MP front-facing camera.

Realme 2 Pro (8GB + 28GB)

Months after setting shop away from Oppo, Realme introduced the Realme 2 Pro as the real successor to the Realme 1 smartphone. The Realme 2 Pro in its 8GB RAM version was launched for a price of Rs 17,990.

The Realme 2 Pro is Realme latest take on a budget smartphone featuring a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels with 19:9 aspect ratio and 409ppi pixel density. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with Adreno 512 GPU, up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. There’s a dual 16MP (f/1.7, 1/2.8″, 1.12µm, PDAF) + 2MP camera setup at the back with a 16MP shooter on the front for selfies.

The latest of the top five smartphones in this segment is the Xiaomi Mi A2’s 6GB version. The device was introduced in October for a price of Rs 18,999 but has since received a permanent price cut of Rs 3,000. The device is thus available for an asking price of Rs 15,999.

The Mi A2 from Xiaomi features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ IPS display with a screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is armed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset along with Adreno 512 GPU, 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There’s a dual-camera setup at the back with a combination of the 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor and a 20MP secondary Sony IMX376 sensor. On the front, the phone has a 20 MP sensor with AI-powered features, including an AI Portrait mode. The device is backed by a 3010mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging support.
