Samsung, Dixon to manufacture new feature phones in India

Dixon Technologies has entered into an agreement with Samsung India for manufacturing of the latter’s mobile feature phones.

Samsung is planning on launching new feature phones in India as the company has entered an agreement with Dixon Technologies as its manufacturing partner. With this partnership, Dixon will be producing Samsung’s upcoming feature phones at its latest facility which expands across 2.24 lakh square feet.

The news comes from Dixon Technologies Executive Chairman, Sunil Vachani who said that the company has entered into an agreement with Samsung India for manufacturing of the latter’s mobile feature phones. The partnership with Dixon is a result of Samsung terminating predictions of its phones in China and the growing competition to manufacture phones locally.

Vachani said “Samsung is one of the most valuable technology brands in the world and a leading mobile phone brand as it has been constantly serving with innovative solutions to customers across all segments. With Dixon’s manufacturing expertise and Samsung’s innovative solutions, we are sure that customers are going to have an enriching experience”.

Dixon Technologies MD, Atul B Lall also confirmed that the company has been linked with Samsung for the production of its home appliances for two years. Lall said “There is a tremendous scope and potential in the feature phone market. We are confident that this relationship will go a long way”.

Dixon was previously associated with Xiaomi for the manufacturing of TVs and security cameras. At the time, Dixon said it will also start producing smartphones, washing machines and consumer electronics in the future and providing people with 1,500 new opportunities.

As for feature phones, Samsung came second in the feature phone market in India trailing Reliance Jio by 15 percent. Lava, which gained the third position was only 2 percent behind Samsung. However, Samsung’s 15 percent hold of the feature market was an improvement over last year’s 10 percent of the Indian Feature phone market.
