Following up on their partnership earlier this year, Dixon Technologies is opening up amanufacturing unit for Xiaomi at the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster-2 (EMC-2) in Renigunta near Tirupati on Thursday. The facility will be inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh.
As part of the move to EMC-2, Dixon will start manufacturing TVs and security cameras for Xiaomi and will expand its manufacturing strength to 3.4 million LED TVs from its previous capacity of 2.4 million. During the first phase of the launch, Dixon will be investing close to Rs 150 crore and will offer 800 jobs to solely work on manufacturing televisions.
Dixon will also start producing smartphones, washing machines and consumer electronics later and expects to provide people with 1,500 new opportunities once its operations open up wholly.
Following the inauguration, Dixon, along with Xiaomi, will launch Xiaomi’s latest 32-inch and 43-inch LED Mi TVs that will be manufactured under the Make in India initiative. Dixon currently supplies components for Xiaomi, Panasonic, Sanyo, Skyworth and TCL. The company will also install an innovation centre and skill development centre at the facility.
