After announcing the withdrawal of Summer Surprise offer last week seems like Reliance Jio is yet to announce its official closure date. In response to this, Vodafone India on Monday filed a complaint to TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) that Reliance Jio hasn’t withdrawn the Summer Surprise offer and is still luring customers, hence, increasing its user base remarkably.
A letter sent by Vodafone to TRAI read, “Reliance Jio is continuing with this offer held as not meeting regulatory norms, in the garb of configuration changes. For past three days, it has been promoting and luring customers to quickly recharge to avail the benefits of a non-compliant offer and also asking its retailers to communicate the same.”
This is after Vodafone took a note of the fact that Reliance Jio is still sending SMS to its non-prime users for the offer. One of the SMS sent to the customers read that Jio is allowing its users to subscribe for Summer Surprise till April 10.
Reliance Jio on March 31st announced that people who want to enrol to Jio Prime subscription can still do so until April 15 by paying Rs 99 as the subscription fee. Further, the infant telecom operator also introduced its new Summer Surprise offer wherein all those who subscribe to Prime subscription by paying Rs 99 and recharging there Jio SIM for Rs 303 or more will get three months of free benefits given under that plan.
However, TRAI intervened and asked Reliance Jio to withdraw Summer Surprise offer as it violates the terms stated for the telecom operators.
A letter from TRAI read – “In our view, such promotion of the customers on an offer held as non-compliant, is a blatant violation and disregard of TRAI’s advisory. Such promotions to customers make (rpt) make the regulatory advisory meaningless,”
Agreeing to this, Reliance Jio said in a statement – “Jio accepts this decision. Jio is in the process of fully complying with the regulator’s advice, and will be withdrawing the 3 months complimentary benefits of JIO SUMMER SURPRISE as soon as operationally feasible, over the next few days.”
Reliance Jio has been providing free services for over six months now and the Summer Surprise offer is rightly not in compliance with terms put up by TRAI but holding on to the offer a little more has surely helped Reliance Jio suck in more users at the last moment.
