Huawei P20 Pro update brings GPU Turbo 3.0, EROFS file system

Huawei has started rolling out an update to the Huawei P20 Pro.

Huawei has started rolling out an update to the Huawei P20 Pro which will now run on EMUI 9.1. EMUI 9.1, which first came running on the Huawei P30 series brings GPU Turbo 3.0, EROFS file system and more new features to the Huawei P20 Pro.

The latest update on the Huawei P20 Pro shifts the software to EMUI 9.1 and weighs in at around 4GB. First things first, it features the third iteration of GPU Turbo – GPU Turbo 3.0 which can bring down the power consumption of the phone by 10 percent while playing games.

Additionally, the latest version of GPU Turbo will also improve touch response, reduce frame drops and output higher frame rate. GPU Turbo 3.0 also extends the optimised games support to 25 titles in total including FIFA Mobile, Fortnite, Crazy Taxi, PES2019, Real Racing 3, NBA 2K19 and more.

Another interesting addition to the update is the new Extendable Read-Only File System (EROFS) which is set to improve speed, disk performance and save disk space. The new file system is capable of increasing the random read speed by 20 percent and saving as much as 2GB of system storage. EROFS was first available on the Huawei P30 Pro but later was seeded to Huawei P30 Lite, Huawei P20 Lite, Huawei Nova3i, and Huawei Y9.

In order to receive the update, you can head over to Settings > System > Software Update and tap on New Version to check for updates manually. If the download is available, you can click Download and later install the update when the download is complete.

Huawei is also expected to roll out EMUI 10 to the P20 Pro smartphone. EMUI 10 will offer a 60 percent boost when using GPU Turbo and up to 70 percent increase in efficiency using Turbo Link. The upcoming software will be able to offer 1080P video calling across Huawei smartphones and will allow native interconnection between smartphones and PCs.
