Xiaomi to launch a new smartphone in India on June 7, could be Redmi S2

Xiaomi might rebrand its recently-launched Redmi S2 and bring it as Redmi Y2 in India. This is primarily because Xiaomi recently touted that its Redmi S2 to be the best ever Redmi phone for selfies.

Xiaomi is all set to launch a new smartphone for the Indian market pretty soon. The company has posted a teaser video on its official Twitter handle that hints the launch date of the upcoming will be June 7.

The tweet reads, “Every step in your life is defined by a selfie. Find yourself, #FindYourSelfie. The BEST selfie smartphone is arriving soon.” The teaser hints that the upcoming smartphone will be focused on selfie camera and it will fall under company’s Y-series. To recall, the brand introduced its Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite in India with the highlighted features being the selfie camera. So, the next smartphone could be named as Redmi Y2.

Interestingly, many believe that Xiaomi might rebrand its recently-launched Redmi S2 and bring it as Redmi Y2 in India. This is primarily because Xiaomi recently touted that its Redmi S2 to be the best ever Redmi phone for selfies. The phone comes with integration, thus, making it highly likely to be launched in India under its Y-series

To recall, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 comes in two variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage priced at 999 Yuan (approx. Rs 10,560) and 1299 Yuan (approx. Rs 13,722) respectively. The smartphone comes in Gray, Rose gold, Champagne Gold and Platinum Silver colour variants.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 features 5.99-inch display with 1440 x 720 pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is powered by a 2GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor with Adreno 506 GPU. It comes with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage, and expandable storage up to 256GB via microSD. The Redmi S2 gets its strength from decent 3,080 mAh battery and runs on 8.1 Oreo operating system wrapped under MIUI 9.
