Google revealed its upcoming mobile interface as Android 9 Pie on Monday and started seeding its own Pixel devices with the latest software upgrade. At the time of its release, the Essential Phone was the only third-party handset which received Google’s latest mobile OS and now Vivo has announced its plans to join in on the Android Pie bandwagon.
In a statement sent to Android Authority, Vivo said that its customers can expect the next generation of Android OS to be seeded to Vivo devices before the end of this year, or more precisely the fourth quarter of 2018. The Chinese manufacturer neither revealed a particular date nor did they speak about which handset will be the first to flaunt Android 9 Pie. Interestingly, no other OEM announced theAndroid 9 firmwareupdate for their devices.
While the team at Android Authority do believe that the update will first come to Vivo X21 which was launch in May this year. It is also speculated that the more recent Nex S which was revealed in India last month, could get the latest Android version.
The original statement by Vivo read “Designing for consumers’ needs continues to be Vivo’s top priority. Upgrading to the latest Android Pie operating system to deliver a better mobile experience is, therefore, an area Vivo is working on bringing to consumers as soon as possible”.
