Sony has been taking android updates seriously as the company has now rolled out Android 7.1.1 update for Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance. With this, Sony has become one of the few handset manufacturers to provide Android 7.1.1 update for its devices. Before this, OnePlus (for OnePlus 3T) and ZTE for Axon 7 were few other OEMs to provide Android 7.1.1 update. The new update was first spotted by XperiaBlog, and is also reported to roll out in India as well.
As per the report, the update doesn’t bring any new features from Sony apart from the original features from Google. To recall, Android 7.1.1 update brings a new feature called ‘app shortcuts’ through which the users can easily access their favourite apps from the by simply long pressing the App icon. Users can also send GIFs directly from their keyboard on supported apps such as Google Allo, Google Messenger and Hangouts. And lastly, the company has added new emojis that promote gender equality.
Xperia XZ, which was launched last year for Rs 49,990 received Android 7.0 Nougat last year in December. Whereas the company is all set to launch its Xperia XZ Premium in India on June 1. For the specs, Sony Xperia XZ comes with a 5.2-inch full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) Triluminos display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and a quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU, which is clubbed with 3GB of RAM. The dual SIM variant of Xperia XZ comes with 64GB of internal storage while the single SIM model has 32 GB of ROM. Both the of which is expandable up to 256GB. The phone has a 2,900 mAh battery with Qnovo’s Adaptive Charging technology and a fingerprint sensor. It is also dust and water resistant and is IP65/IP68 certified for the same.
Sony Xperia XZ has a 23-megapixel primary camera with 1/2.3″ Exmos RS sensor and f/2.0 lens. It comes with Predictive Hybrid AF and 5-axis stabilisation features and can record 4K videos. A 13-megapixel secondary camera is on the phone for selfies and video chats which come with 1/3″ Exmor RS sensor, 22mm Wide-Angle f/2.0 lens, 1080p video recording.
Sony’s Xperia X Performance, on the other hand, was launched last year in June and received Android 7.0 update in November 2016. However, the device never came to India.
