OnePlus TV remote gets teased by Pete Lau, reveals Google Assistant button, USB-C port

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has teased the design of the remote that will ship with the upcoming OnePlus TV. On first glance, the remote looks quite similar to a remote that’s bundled with an Apple TV.

OnePlus has scheduled to launch the OnePlus TV in September and it will be available first in India. Continuing with the traction of slow-rolling features of upcoming products before the launch, the company has now shared yet another detail about the OnePlus TV and this time, it’s the TV remote which gets a sneak peek.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau today shared a tweet revealing what the OnePlus TV’s remote looks like. The design of the remote is quite similar to a remote that’s bundled with an Apple TV with circular buttons for different commands, an oval button and a square-shaped area for navigation.

OnePlus’s TV remote appears to be made of metal with shiny edges and curved corners. At the top, is the square-shaped black module which could be the D-pad to move between left, right, down and up inside the TV. There also appears to be an enter key in the middle.

Apart from the square-portion at the top, the remote also features four circular button – one with a OnePlus logo, one Google Assistant key, a menu (or Android hamburger) button and a black button, possibly unmarked for the teaser.

The oval-shaped button on the right side will offer Android controls for ‘back’ and ‘home’. Another interesting thing to note is the presence of a volume rocker on the right edge, which is new in the land of TV remotes. The remote also features a USB-C port at the bottom which the OnePlus CEO was quick to confirm about.

Previously, the OnePlus TV was confirmed to be powered by a dedicated ‘Gamma Color Magic’ image processor to offer a best-in-class image quality on OnePlus TV’s customised QLED panel with widest colour gamut. The upcoming smart TV is also expected to come equipped with 55-inch 4K QLED screen, Dolby Vision and 50W sound output.

Earlier this month, OnePlus’ CEO, Pete Lau also disclosed that the OnePlus TV will run a modified version of Google’s Android TV platform and will get three years of Android TV updates.

The OnePlus is expected to come armed with MediaTek MT5670 processor coupled with Mali G51 and 3GB of RAM. OnePlus has already confirmed a 55-inch QLED OnePlus TV for starters. It’s expected that the 55-inch model will accompany another 65-inch TV for release across all OnePlus markets. The company is expected to 75-inch model for users in China and the US while a 43-inch model will launch specifically for Indian users.
