OnePlus is all set to introduce its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6. Now, just ahead of launch, the company has confirmed that the latest smartphone will feature a glass back.
Pete Lau, CEO and Co-Founder, OnePlus, has confirmed in a forum post that the upcoming smartphone will feature a glass design. Pete says that the brand has incorporated the horizon design, which is similar to what we have seen in previous OnePlus models. He says that OnePlus 6’s glass design is centred around creating a “sense of value” and “premium hand-feel.”
“We gave a lot of thought to how users should feel when they use the OnePlus 6. The advantages of glass over metal are manifold: glass communicates a transparent, bright, and pure feeling. The way glass transforms under different lighting is a particularly important challenge—the OnePlus design team tested over 70 glass prototypes before selecting the best one,” he said in the forum post.
He further revealed that the glass back on the OnePlus 6 contains five printed layers of Nanotech coating. “We applied 5 layers of Nanotech Coating instead of 3, even though the degree of separation between each layer is extremely subtle and tough to discern. However, the additional layers give the back of the device a stronger impression of depth that our most demanding users will surely appreciate,” he added.
The OnePlus 6 will be backed 6GB/8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. Further, the latest smartphone will feature Dash Charge V2, which the brand claims will a day’s power within 20 minutes of charging.
The brand has already revealed that the OnePlus 6 will feature a massive 256GB of internal storage, making it company’s first phone to bear such large storage. Lau also confirmed that the phone will be backed by an 8GB of RAM. Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. OnePlus 6 will be backed by dual rear cameras that will come with a combination of 20-megapixel primary lens and 16-megapixel of secondary sensor.
OnePlus has already confirmed that the upcoming smartphone will sport an iPhone X-like notch on the top. The brand has stressed that the notch present in its upcoming smartphone is different, ‘implemented with more thought and care’.
