Lenovo Z5 Pro GT Edition launched as the first Snapdragon 855-powered smartphone

Two weeks after its introduction, the Snapdragon 855 chipset now finds its way to an Android smartphone for the first time and it's paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Lenovo revealed that the Z5 Pro with Snapdragon 855 outdid every other smartphone in AnTuTu with a score of 368,480.

Lenovo launches Lenovo Z5s smartphone in China today and to everybody’s surprise, the Chinese smartphone maker has now announced yet another smartphone, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT will be the first smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 chipset and comes as a successor to the Lenovo Z5 Pro which was announced earlier last month. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT will be available for a starting price of 2,698 yuan (approx. Rs 27,700).

Lenovo revealed during the launch event that the Z5 Pro with Snapdragon 855 outdid every other smartphone in the AnTuTu benchmarks chart with a score of 368,480, more than even the iPhone XS which is powered by Apple’s A12 Bionic chipset. Another reason for the high score could be the presence of 12GB of RAM which finds its way for the first time on a smartphone.

Besides the internals, the Z5 Pro GT features similar components as that of the Lenovo Z5 Pro. The device comes packed with a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ display with a of 2340 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. There are no bezels on the front as there’s no notch at the top and the display thus spans to up to 95.06 percent of the front. The display is HDR 10 compliant and also features an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The reason the Z5 Pro GT manages to pack in an all-screen display is due to the sliding back panel which is made of glass and employs six double helix springs for the physical movement. The slider features the dual front-facing 16MP (f/2.2 aperture) + 8MP (infrared) cameras, an sensor, infrared light and proximity sensor. The camera comes with features including a beauty mode for selfies and IR face recognition for detecting a face even under low light conditions.

The main camera comprises of a 24MP Sony IMX576 sensor and a 16MP Sony IMX519 snapper with dual f/1.8 lens, autofocus, dual-tone LED flash, videos, 1080p videos at 120 fps, HDR, PDAF, super night scene mode and AI scene recognition.

The Z5 Pro GT comes with Android 9 Pie pre-installed and Lenovo’s ZUI 10.0 on top and is backed by a 3,350mAh battery that’s bundled with support for 18W fast charging. Connectivity options include VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 2×2 MIMO, 5.0, NFC, and USB-C. The lack of a jack is compromised with a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT will be available for a starting price of 2,698 yuan (approx. Rs 27,700) for the base version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Furthermore, the device can be purchased at 2,998 yuan (approx. Rs 30,800), 3,998 yuan (approx. Rs 41,000) and 4,398 yuan (approx. Rs 45,150) for the 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB versions respectively.
