HTC is reportedly all set to make a comeback in the Indian smartphone industry with new launches. The company is set to launch a range of products in the country this month.
As per PTI sources, the brand is making a comeback to India after a gap of more than a year. HTC shut down its operation in India last year after Faisal Siddiqui left the organisation. The sources further reveal that the company will introduce a new flagship series of smartphones in the next few days. The series is set to “offer many firsts in the smartphone industry.”
The report further highlights that HTC will sell its smartphones in India through an international distribution network. The company has chosen Inone Technology as the brand licensee for HTC in India. The company is headquartered in Shenzhen and HTC will now sell its smartphones through Inone in the country, reports PTI.
The brand will have a tough time competing with other Chinese players like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo and more. HTC needs to start fresh with the Indian smartphone and it has bring its smartphones at an aggressive price point while maintaining a good track record of delivering regular updates and after-sales support. HTC had less than 1 percent market share in the overall smartphone segment in India and less than 2 percent in premium smartphone segment.
Previously, HTC was reported to be in talks with Indian smartphone manufacturers including Micromax, Lava and Karbonn for brand licencing to make a comeback in the industry. The report highlighted that discussion with the Indian brands are in advanced stages and it highly likely Lava and Karbonn teaming up to bid for the HTC brand licence. However, it seems that the company finally moved to an international distributor to sell its smartphones in the country.
