Flipkart has recently announced the launch of its new video streaming service, the Flipkart Video Originals. The new video streaming is all set to compete with the likes of Amazon Prime Videos, Netflix, Hotstar and more.
The new video platform will be integrated within the Flipkart video platform, which it introduced recently in August this year. The company will partner with different creators in the industry and the content will be curated especially for the platform.
“When we launched our video platform earlier this year, our agenda was clear and we were keen to play a role in on-boarding new customers who are not necessarily new to the Internet but are new to e-commerce,” Prakash Sikaria, Vice President-Growth and Monetisation, Flipkart, said in a statement.
Flipkart has revealed that it will work with Studio Next, Frames and Sikhya Productions to bring exclusive content for the platform across different genres and languages in the coming months. The first original series known as Backbenchers, hosted by Farah Khan, will go live later this month.
Previously, Flipkart announced the rollout of a new Videos service to its e-commerce platform. The new platform is available for users on the Android application as of now and there are no reports whether it is available for iOS devices.
The company has added a dedicated section on its Flipkart application and it provides content from players like Arre, Dice Media, TVF and Voot. The company has revealed that it will not offer original content initially, though it might look into it. The company has further revealed that the new Video service will be available for free for its users.
