After taking off the boots for some time, Micromax finally launched a new smartphone in India today. Micromax Dual 5 is priced at Rs 24,999 and looks impressive if we consider all that the company has been claiming about the device. Based on the price, the device is more of a mid-ranger and sports some decent specifications. Micromax claims it to be the perfect smartphone, but we will hold on to our judgement before we are out with our detailed review. Till then, here are the five things we like about the new Micromax Dual 5.
Dual Camera Setup
Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the new Micromax Dual 5 is its Dual 13-megapixel camera set up at the back. The device boasts two 13-megapixel Sensors at the back, one being a normal RGB sensor for taking out accurate colours while other being a Monochrome sensor for bringing more details to a picture. Apart from this, we get a f/1.8 aperture,1.12um pixel size, PDAF, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection, 6 lens type structure and a dedicated colour temperature sensor. All these specs aside, the camera on the Dual 5 actually performs really well. Meanwhile, the device also sports a 13-megapixel sensor at the front which also didn’t fail to impress us. Check out our camera test here.
Security
Well, not a lot of manufacturers these days focus on the security aspect of a smartphone and which is where Micromax hit the bullseye with the Dual 5. Unlike fiddling with the software for security, Dual 5 boasts dedicated hardware security chip along with the software security features, which the company claims make the device unhackable. To explain, fingerprint Password imaging and other passwords are usually stored at a software level but in Dual 5 all the user credentials and security passwords are encrypted and saved in the dedicated security hardware chip. The phone also comes with a safe switch, ensuring that no one else can unlock your phone or shut it down without a password. In fact, any attempt to pull out the SIM card would lock the phone capturing the picture of the suspected intruder.
Build Quality and Design
This might come as a surprise but we were really impressed with the build quality of this device. Although the design is not a unique part but at least it feels sturdy. Also, it feels light for the size. Talking about the size, Micromax has done a good job of shrinking the overall size of the device despite putting a 5.5-inch display. Here, look at the Micromax Dual 5 when placed against the OnePlus 3 and Gionee A1.
Further, the new Dual 5 sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED display. If you ask us, we would always prefer an AMOLED Display over an LCD panel mainly because of its better efficiency, vivid colours and the fact that it is more easy to the eye.
Internal Storage
Things might begin to be picky here but the Dual 5 deserves a mention for its massive 128GB internal storage. Not a lot of smartphones under Rs 25K sports 128GB of internal storage. Not only this, the device also has an option to double up the internal storage (up to 128GB) via microSD slot.
USB Type-C, Fast Charging, IR Blaster
Apart from the ever lasting specifications and design, there are a lot of small things which, if taken care of, is really appreciated by the audience. One of them here is the implementation of USB Type-C with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. Further, we also get an Infrared Blaster up top which is highly underestimated these days.
Apart from all this, Micromax has also done a good job with pricing. Rs 24,999 for the new Micromax Dual 5 is a decent bet if not the best. However, we would have our final say on the price once we are done testing the Dual 5.
