Though they are a long way from replacing Personal Computers and laptops as the first choice of computing device, but tablets are definitely in the reckoning. Especially, the new age of tablet-laptop hybrids and powerful tablets are attracting consumers as they are easier to carry around than laptops.
Notwithstanding the ‘tablet vs laptop’ debate, here we have zeroed in on five kind of applications which are considered as ‘must have’ for tablets, especially if you are relying on it more than your tablet.
Anti Virus
With hacking and viruses becoming a common phenomena, an anti-virus application should be on your first list of apps for your tablet. Yes there are concerns that these make your tablet a tad slower but it is better to be on the safer side.
There are several anti-virus apps in the Google Play store right now. All noted security solution providers currently offer their anti-virus apps for Android devices including AVG, Kaspersky, Norton, AVAST etc. Most of them are also available for free.
Browsers
The native Android Browser does not provide much option as many third party browsers. Hence you must download one if you browse internet more often. Among the dozens of web browser available for Android devices, Firefox, Opera Mini, UC Browser, and Chrome are the noted ones.
Most of them offer full functionality as their desktop counterparts. Since they have small downloadable file and are free, you can always experiment with them till you get the best for you.

Document Editor
Most of us are habituated with the Microsoft Office suite cause of our Windows PCs but in Android, the same does not come for free. But don’t worry Google Play Store has several apps which are not though as good as that but are equally good.
Docs-To-Go, Kingsoft Office, Polaris Office, and Google Docs are to name a few.
Ebook Readers
Like me, many of you might have purchased a tablet to read e-books and thus you need a decent e-book reader. Ofcourse there are dozens of e-book readers out there in the market but not all offer the same experience and mind you e-book reader can mar or enhance your experience by a great deal.
The noted e-book readers, currently available in the market, are Aldiko, Cool Reader, Moon+ reader etc. E-book sellers like Amazon and Flipkart too are offering their own e-book readers.
Cloud Storage
Unlike PCs, tablets suffer from low internal as well as expandable memory. Hence you must always check your storage as to not run out of memory. Thus Cloud Storage facilities are so important these days. Popular cloud storage providers like Dropbox and Box have free applications for Android users. There are several other cloud storage apps in the Google Play store which you can toy with as well.
But before downloading any app, please give due attention to the permissions the App asks for and other users’ comments to be on the safer side.
