WickedLeak is active in the Indian market since a couple of years; whether you have heard this name or not I cannot say but this brand has been offering spec-rich smartphones in India before the Xiaomi and Gionee. Plus, it is not a Chinese brand (Iit is actually an India based company founded in 2009 who like all other players import its devices from China).
Anyway, this time WickedLeak has come out with a phone, named as Wammy Titan 4, with everything you could imagine. To start with it has a 5 inch touchscreen with full high definition Resolution and Gorilla Glass 3. Inside, there is a 1.7 GHz octa core Processor and 2 GB RAM that run the Android KitKat operating system. Plus, it has 16 GB of internal storage and a 64 GB micro SD card slot. Most importantly, it has a 5330 mAh battery!
On top of that the WickedLeak Wammy Titan 4 also offers 16 Megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front camera. What’s more, it has a fingerprint sensor! Yes you heard that right.
With all that in my palm, I was a bit excited and here is what I had discovered during the course of my review.
Design
The WickedLeak Wammy Titan 4 measures 146mm x 73.6mm x 9.3mm which is pretty decent for a 5 inch phone. But it weighs 199 grams (with battery ) which is almost 60-70 grams heavier than average 5 inch phones. But at the same time one must note that the Wammy Titan 4 has a 5330 mAh battery.
The phone has a matte finish back panel and thick aluminium side panel. Inside the back panel lies the two SIM slots and the micro SD card slot. The volume rocker and the power button are located on the right panel. The 3.5 mm jack and the micro USB ports are located at the top while at the bottom, there are two speaker grills. Another speaker grill is located just above the display alongside the front camera.
Like Samsung phones, there is a physical rectangular button just below the display. On either side of this home button, there are touch buttons for the “Return” and “Menu” function. What’s important here is that the home button also acts as a fingerprint scanner.
Overall, if you overlook the weight factor, the Wammy Titan 4 is a decent looking smartphone.
Display
The Wammy Titan 4 has a 5 inch display. It is an IPS display and does offer decent viewing angle. On top of that the Titan 4’s display has full high definition resolution (1920×1080 pixels) and thus it makes watching HD movies a pleasurable experience. The display also has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
However, the brightness levels are not sufficient for bright outdoors in India – the same issue plagues most of its competitors as well. However, note that only outdoors you will feel the pinch but indoors or where there is no direct sunlight, you can easily operate the phone without any issue.
There is no issue with the touch response of the screen, but the home button isn’t that swift. I had to press it very hard and often 2-3 times to generate a response. The fingerprint sensor though works quite smoothly.
Performance
The WickedLeak Wammy Titan 4 has the Mediatek MT6592 Chipset that combines a 1.7 GHz pcta core processor with Mali-450 graphics processor and 2 GB RAM. The combination looks terrific on paper and the average joe won’t feel any pinch during day to day tasks. However, it stutters a lot while playing very high graphics based games like the NOVA 3 Freedom Edition.
The Wammy Titan 4 comes with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system and has the default Android interface.
However, it is spectacular when it comes to battery back up and why it wouldn’t be, afterall it has a huge 5330 mAh battery. While using two SIM cards, with internet 24×7 (either via WiFi or 3G), the phone managed to stay alive for more than two days with average usage. Even heaviest usage, the phone would easily last for more than 24 hours.
Storage and Connectivity
The Wammy Titan 4 has 16 GB of internal storage of which 13.31 GB is available for users. There is an expandable storage slot as well which too can handle a micro SD card of up to 64 GB. Apart from that, you can also use any external storage devices like a pen drive (we tested an 8 GB pen drive) with the phone using an USB OTG cable.
For connectivity, it has dual SIM with 3G connectivity, a micro USB port, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi. It offers GPS for navigation.
Camera
Last but not the least is its camera features. The Wammy Titan 4 has a 16 megapixel rear auto focus camera. The rear camera comes with 5P Schott Bluee Glass Filter, Sony IMX214 CMOS Sensor, F2.2 Aperture, and 28 mm wide angle lens. There is an LED flash in the rear panel as well.
This rear camera managed to focus on very close objects and offers plenty of details. It has no problem either in plenty of light or in lack of it. Colour reproduction was also of very high standard.
The Wammy Titan 4 also offers a front camera of 8 megapixel resolution – the best for a front camera in this price range. Thus you can capture great selfies which you can further edit to share on social networks. However, you must understand that this is a fixed focus unit and while clicking you must properly focus on subjects and should not shake it while pressing the shutter button, else you would get a shaky image.
