Vivo V11 Pro First Impressions: Premium design, immersive display!

With the latest smartphone, Vivo is offering in-display fingerprint sensor, which was earlier available only its flagship series. But will it make any difference in this price range?

Vivo has today launched its latest mid-range smartphone, the V11 Pro, in India. The phone comes with a price tag of Rs 25,990 and it will be available on sale from September 12, 2018. The pre-booking of the latest smartphone starts from September 06, 2018.

With the latest smartphone, Vivo is offering in-display fingerprint sensor, which was earlier available only its flagship series. And this is the first phone from Vivo in India that comes with a Halo FullView display. Simply put, it has a notch that resembles a water drop. We got the chance to spent some time with the device and this is what we think of it.

Design and Display

Vivo V11 Pro

Vivo has become one of those few brands in the country that is offering some new technologies for its range of smartphones. And the brand has also worked hard in improving the design of its smartphones, which is reflected in this one as well. You get a gradient finish at the back of the Vivo V11 Pro (pictures), which is made of glass. This gives a pretty dope look to the device and it surely stands out of the crowd with its design language. However, this is not it. The company has further shrunk the size of the notch at a top to give an immersive screen. We loved the new water drop notch at the front. Further, the gentle curve around the edges makes it easier to hold in hand.

The front sports a large 6.41 inches screen with minimal bezels around the edges. The right comes with a volume rocker and power on/off button, while the left houses SIM tray that combines two SIM slot and one card slot. The top is bare and the base of the device features a 3.5mm audio jack, port and a speaker grille. The back houses a dual-camera setup highlighted by a golden ring, while at the centre, you will find Vivo branding. You must be wondering where is the fingerprint sensor. The answer is, it is embedded right into the screen. Futuristic isn’t it! That said, the phone is prone to smudges, but thankfully the company has given a silicone cover to cover the panel.

Vivo V11 Pro sports a 6.41-inch Full Halo FullView with a screen of 2280 x 1080 pixels. The phone comes with an immersive screen and it offers some wide range of colour gamut. The viewing angles look great and so is the brightness of this device. We will talk more about this in our upcoming review.

Hardware and Software

The Vivo V11 Pro is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. The device is backed by a 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. That said, the performance of the Snapdragon 660 is good in most of the departments. However, at this price point, the company could have opted for a 700-series chipset, not forgetting the fact Xiaomi introduced its Poco F1 with Snapdragon 845 at a starting price of Rs 20,999.

For software, the phone runs on 8.1 Oreo, which is based on the company’s FunTouch OS custom user interface. The interface is pretty smooth to operate in our initial testing. Though you will find heavy inspiration from Apple’s in this user interface. Additionally, we noticed a noticeable amount of bloatware in the UI. A more detailed take on the FubTouch is coming in our review.

Camera

The smartphone comes loaded with a dual rear camera with a combination of 12MP (f/1.8) primary sensor and a secondary 5MP (f/2.4) module for depth sensing. For the front, there is a 25-megapixel (f/2.0) which uses for clicking selfies. The camera UI is pretty simple and you get different modes like AI Face beauty, panorama, professional, DOC, AR stickers and more. The AR stickers offer a host of interesting stickers, which are fun to use and play around. Click here to check some camera samples of Vivo V11 Pro.

Coming to the camera performance, the phone is able to take some crisp and well-detailed shots when the light is good. The camera is pretty fast to focus and AI scene detection does a good job in tweaking the image for a optimal output. The front camera does a brilliant job in capturing detailed selfies when the light is good.

Battery and Connectivity

On the battery front, the Vivo V11 Pro is equipped with a 3400mAh battery, which should ideally last a day under normal usage. There is an option for as well and it would be interesting to see how fast it is able to charge the device. For connectivity, you get Bluetooth, dual-SIM, VoLTE, WiFi, GPS, and micro USB port.

Verdict

Vivo V11 Pro comes loaded with some pretty amazing features. You get in-display fingerprint sensor coupled with waterdrop-like notch for an immersive screen experience. The design looks promising, though the glass panel is prone to smudges. The camera looks decent and the battery seems to be average. As for the competition is concerned, the phone will face a stiff competition with Poco F1 that offers flagship performance on a budget.
