With this new launch, Vivo is trying to eye the budget segment which is already dominated by brands like Xiaomi and Realme at the moment. Vivo U10 comes with a triple rear camera setup along with decent hardware and a massive battery of 5000mAh. But the big question is can Vivo U10 prove itself to be the best buy smartphone in the10k range. We spent some time with the device and here our first impressions.

Design and Display

Vivo U10 comes in two colour options: Electric Blue and Thunder Black and we have received Electric Blue variant for review. The phone comes with a plastic back panel with a glossy finish which seems to be of decent build quality at this price point. It has a water drop notch up top and a considerable chin at the bottom. The glossy finish attracts smudges and fingerprints at the back.

At the top of the display, there lies the front camera housed inside notch along with an earpiece. The bottom of the phone features a 3.5 mm jack, speaker grill, a microphone and a port. The top is left bare. On the right side, we have power on/off button and volume rocker buttons while the left side features volume controls and dual SIM + card slot.

The back panel of the device consists of a triple camera setup with flash. It also has a Vivo branding at the bottom of the back. The phone also features a fingerprint sensor on the back. Moreover, there is face unlock feature as well apart from regular or pattern for security. In our initial testing, we found the fingerprint sensor and face unlock feature to be quite fast in unlocking the device.

Now talking about its display, Vivo U10 features a 6.35-inch display with a screen of 1544 x 720 pixels and 89 percent screen-to-body-ratio. The screen and viewing angle look good and outdoor visibility also seems to be decent. There are round-edges on the phone and it feels pretty solid while holding in hands. Although we found it to be a bit heavy at 190.5 grams thanks to the big battery inside.

Hardware and Software

Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 2.0Ghz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 along with Adreno 610 GPU. It is backed by upto 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The memory can be further expanded to upto 256GB via micro sd card. The performance of the device is yet to be tested out in its full glory, so stay tuned with us for the review of Vivo U10.

On the software front, the Vivo U10 runs on 9.0 Pie, which is based on FunTouch OS 9.1. The user interface is smooth with no lags or stutters. There are various preloaded third-party apps like Opera Browser, Helo, Gaana, WPS Office Amazon Shopping, Paytm. We will get a clearer picture of the user interface in our upcoming review.

Camera

One attraction of Vivo U10 is its triple camera setup which is aligned vertically. It has a combination of 13-megapixel primary lens with f/2.2 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.2 and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture to enable portrait and bokeh modes. For the front, the phone has a 8-megapixel selfie shooter which is housed inside the notch.

The camera has various modes like Video, Photo, Beauty, Bokeh and Panorama. The phone, however, does not come with any for clicking brighter images in low light conditions. In our initial testing, we noticed that the smartphone takes decent photos in daylight condition but in low light conditions, the phone struggles a bit. The selfie camera also does a decent job when it comes to capturing the details in a selfie. We will give our final judgment only in our review as the camera need to tested thoroughly under different lighting conditions.

Battery and Connectivity

On the battery front, the Vivo U10 comes with an impressive 5,000mAh battery with 18W dual-engine support. Although the battery capacity is yet to be tested but we expect the phone to offer at least two days of battery backup with normal usage. Connectivity features include dual VoLTE, 5.0, WiFi, GPS, GLONASS, and micro USB port. The phone measures 159×43 x 76.77 x 8.92 mm and weighs 190.5 grams. As for the are concerned, it comes with Ambient Light, Accelerometer, Proximity, E-compass and gyroscope.

Verdict

The combination of the triple-camera setup at the rear and 5,000mAh battery is the major USP of Vivo U10 at this price. It seems to be a decent smartphone but the performance and user interface needs to be tested thoroughly before giving our final verdict. As for the competition is concerned, the smartphone will face a tough competition with the likes of Realme 5, Samsung Galaxy M10s, Moto E6s, Lenovo K10 Plus and more.
