The devices will exclusively be available on Flipkart from today i.e. January 10, 12 PM onwards.

China-based smartphone brand iVooMi has announced the launch of two devices namely iVooMi i1 and i1s in India. The former is priced at Rs 5,999, while the latter comes with a price tag of Rs 7,499. The devices will exclusively be available on Flipkart from today i.e. January 10, 12 PM onwards. Both the devices come in Jade Black and Platinum Gold colour variants.

The major highlight of the smartphones is the Infinity display. Which makes them the handsets to come with an aspect ratio of 18:9 at this price range. The device which we received for the review is the iVooMi i1 in Platinum Gold colour. We spent some time with it and here are our first impressions.

It is worth noting that the iVooMi i1 and iVooMi i1s share same design looks and specification, the only difference between the two is that the former comes with 2GB and 16GB storage, while latter features 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory.

Design and Display

To start with the design first, the iVooMi i1 features a new elegant and a premium look at the front, however back is pretty much standard for this price range. This means you get a polycarbonate unibody, which does not feel cheap when you hold it. We were impressed by the fact that the company has added a fingerprint sensor, as not many smartphones are available with this feature at this price.

The smartphone features a plastic body and the back is removable. At the front, the iVooMi i1 has a 5.45-inch screen, which is protected with a 2.5D curved glass. Interestingly, the company touts that the device is equipped with an Infinity Edge display. However, we can still spot some huge bezels at the forehead and chin area of the phone. From the from front and bottom, the handset highly resembles the Samsung Galaxy S8 with the same curved display design and speaker grills at the bottom, though it doesn’t have any curved display.

Moving to the back, the back panel is removable and houses a battery (non-removable), rear dual-camera setup, flash, fingerprint sensor, card slot and MicroSD card slot. The right has top has the 3.5mm jack and USB port to charge the device, while the volume rockers and the power button are at the right which is perfectly accessible.

Coming back to the display, the 5.45-inch IPS display Infinity Edge display comes with the of 1440×720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. During our testing period, we found out the display is quite bright and the outdoor visibility will not be an issue with both the devices. However, the display carries a bluish tint, though the viewing angles are great.

Hardware and Software

On the hardware front, the smartphones run on the MediaTek 6737 quad-core processor, along with Mali-T720. The iVooMi i1 comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while the iVooMi i1s features a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Both of the variants are expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

On the software front, the device runs on the 7.0 Nougat, and it is not planned to upgrade. The company has kept the nearly user interface of the smartphone with few modifications in the launcher, similar to the previous generation devices. iVooMi has also added few third-party apps including Amazon, Flipkart, Xender and more.

Camera

The camera on the iVooMi i1 and iVooMi i1s is the second main highlight of the devices. You get a 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel camera. Moving to the front camera, it comes with a wide 8-megapixel sensor with some cool features like an auto/manual beauty mode and ability to click HDR images.

During our initial testing, we found out the camera performance of the device is average in outdoor natural condition as well as indoors. Although it is able to focus pretty fast, the detailing is not up to the mark, at least from the photos we took in a brief time. The selfie performance is also below average and acceptable in natural light conditions.

Battery and Connectivity

The iVooMi devices are backed up by a 3000mAh battery. On the connectivity front, both the devices support VoLTE, Bluetooth, WiFi, dual SIM and port, Light Sensor, G-Sensor, and Proximity Sensor.

Verdict

To sum up, the devices feature an Infinity Edge display and Dual-camera setup, with pretty standard specifications at this price range. The near stock Android experience surely adds some decent points. As far as the competition is concerned, the phones will face a stiff competition with the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, Micromax Bharat 5, Motorola Moto C Plus and more.
