Intex Aqua Power First Cut: Spec wise its bang for each buck

The icing on the cake is Intex's offering of free screen replacement in case of any damage within one year.

Yesterday at an event in Delhi, Intex launched a new smartphone, Aqua power, for Rs 8,499. The major attraction of this smartphone is its huge 4000 battery. We spent sometime with the device during its launch and here is our first impression about Intex Aqua Power.

Specs

Intex Aqua Power runs on 4.4.2 KitKat and will be upgradeable to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The phone will be available in online and offline stores starting today.

Aqua power is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core processor. It has 1GB of RAM, 8 GB internal memory and expandable memory slot which can accommodate 32 GB micro SD card. It has a 5-inch IPS screen and is quite slim at 9.3mm.

Intex has loaded Aqua power with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. It supports USB OTG, WiFi, FM Radio, Bluetooth, and feature.

Look and feel

Intex Aqua Power doesn’t have any extraordinary design and looks like any other smartphone that is available in the market in sub-Rs 10,000 category. It doesn’t mean it looks bad but the only thing is it lacks X-factor.

Aqua Power has three capacitive buttons at the bottom of the display and they are not backlit. On the side panels there is volume rocker and power button. It has a removable back panel under which one can find dual SIM slots and Micro SD card slot.

Inspite of 5 inch display screen Intex Aqua Power is comfortable to hold and operate. It’s back panel is having a mat finish.

First impression

Major attraction of Intex Aqua Power is its price and battery. Intex is also offering one year free screen replacement in case of any damage. During our brief usage Aqua Power didn’t show any lag in scrolling or playing couple of pre loaded games which were though not heavy. We will share our in-depth views on its performance when we do the full review of the device. In the camera department, output of rear camera was quite average in low lighting conditions and had lot of noise. Even the closes up shots were not impressive. We were not able to test the phone in well-lit condition so we will reserve our final comment about the camera quality till the time we test it completely.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Intex has launched an octa core smartphone. Earlier they had launched Intex Aqua Amaze for Rs 10,490. Currently, other octa core smartphone that are available in the market in sub Rs 10000 segment are the WickedLeak Wammy Neo at Rs 7,990 which is the cheapest octa core handset and Redmi Note is also decent buy at Rs 8,999.

Verdict

The icing on the cake is Intex's offering of free screen replacement in case of any damage within one year.
