Infinix has launched its latest budget-centric smartphone, the Infinix S4 in India. The phone comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage priced at Rs 8,999. The phone will be available for purchase from Flipkart starting from May 28.
With this launch, the company is offering a host of interesting features including a big 4000mAh battery. The highlight of the phone is the triple-camera setup at the back and a 32-megapixel AI front camera. So, the real question is, will this smartphone proves itself to be the best budget smartphone seller in India? Lets get going with our first impression.
Design and Display
Infinix S4 phone comes with a pretty sleek design language. It sports a glossy finish at the back, which disguises as glass, but it is just polycarbonate plastic. At this price point, the phone no doubt gives you a premium look due to its mirror finish at the back panel.
The rear of the device features an AI triple camera setup flanked by the LED flashlight. One will also find a rectangular shaped fingerprint sensor at the centre. Just beneath the fingerprint sensor, there is the Infinix branding as well. Like most of the smartphones, this phone also has a waterdrop notch display.
On the right panel, you will see volume controls and power on/off button while on the left, you slot to hold Dual-SIM and microSD card slot. The bottom panel of the phone has a Micro USB port, a speaker grille, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Infinix S4 is quite lightweight at 155 grams. It fits into the hand perfectly.
On the display front, you get a 6.26-inch HD+ (720 x 1520 pixels) display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. This display comes with 500nit screen brightness. During our brief testing period, we felt display has good viewing angles and readability in bright sunlight was not an issue. However, it would be interesting to see how well it will perform during our review period.
Hardware and Software
Infinix S4 is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 Cortex-A53 Processor with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz, along with PowerVR GE8320 GPU. It is backed up by a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card slot.
For security features, the Infinix S4 features a fingerprint sensor and face unlock feature also. We found the fingerprint sensor quite fast for unlocking the device with no noticeable lags. The face unlock feature also worked well in our initial testing. It is too early to comment on the performance of the device, but we will reserve our judgment till we review the device.
The smartphone runs on Android 9.0 Pie, which is based on the company’s custom UI XOS 5.0 on top of it. The user interface comes loaded with some good features. It features an app drawer where applications are sorted in Alphanumeric order. On the right one will find the characters drawer which eases the process of finding a particular app.
In terms of bloatware, the device comes with the dozen of those, including the XTheme, XClub, Phone Master, PHX Browser, Face Unlock, Flipkart, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Weather, Opera News and more. Out of them, one can delete just a few pre-loaded apps like Flipkart, Facebook, Opera News, and Whatsapp while company-owned apps like XTheme, XClub, Phone Master cannot be deleted.
Camera
S4 has a triple rear camera setup – 13-megapixel as a primary sensor + 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle secondary sensor (up to 120°) + 2-megapixel depth-of-field sensor). It is supported by dual-tone Quad LED flash. The front of the phone features a 32-megapixel AI selfie snapper.
The camera UI in the phone is pretty simple and you get different options like video, AI cam, beauty, bokeh, and AR shot. Here are some camera samples to give you an idea of the kind of quality you can expect from the Infinix S4 camera. For the selfie camera, it has various features like video, HDR, Flash, Portrait mode, beauty, and AR shot.
The rear camera performance was decent in our initial testing. The front camera does some good selfie in broad daylight and the bokeh effects are impressive, though we need to check the camera in different lighting conditions. We will be testing the device thoroughly over the next few days and will let you know the quality of camera shots in a detailed full review.
Battery and Connectivity
The Infinix S4 has a 4000mAh battery which will easily last for a full day even through heavy usage. On the connectivity front, the smartphone supports 4G VoLTE, WiFi, GPS/AGPS, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5 mm audio jack, FM radio, and micro USB port. The phone measures 156 x 75 x 7.9 mm.
