Flipkart has been offering IT products under Digiflip brand for quite some time and the latest addition is the Android 4.2 based Digiflip Pro XT 712 tablet. It is priced at Rs 9,999 and marks the entry of Flipkart in tablet domain.
This budget tablet, according to Flipkart, aimed at addressing gaps in the current breed of budget tablets available in the market. We spent some time with the device at its launch and here is our first impression of the device.
Look and Feel:
The Digiflip Pro XT 712 has a metal body but doesn’t have any distinctive design aspect that would make it stand out in the tablet market. The build quality is decent and the tablet looks sturdy but most consumers will not be impressed with its design. Like all the tablets it doesn’t have a removable panel but has a flap on the top that can be removed to access SIM card and micro SD card slots.
In terms of specifications, this 9.2 mm thick tablet weighs 285 grams with its metal body. The Digiflip Pro XT 712 has a 7 inch IPS display with HD resolution. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core processor and 1 GB RAM. For storage, it has 16 GB internal memory and an expandable storage slot that can accommodate a micro SD card of up to 32 GB. The tablet is currently based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system.
The tablet comes with two SIM slots offering 3G connectivity as well as voice calling. Besides, it has WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 for connectivity. It sports a 5 megapixel camera and an LED flash in the rear while a 2 megapixel camera is in its front. The rear camera can capture full HD videos. The tablet is powered by a 3000 mAh battery that claims to offer 8 hours of talktime and 168 hours of standby. It comes with USB OTG support and GPS for navigation as well.
Its 7 inch display in terms of colour reproduction was good and because of IPS panel viewing from different angles was not an issue. Response too was quite smooth and navigation was not an issue. Though in bright sunlight reading content was a bit difficult.
The Digiflip Pro has a 5 megapixel rear camera and an LED flash in the back while a 2 megapixel camera is in its front. I clicked pictures using both the front and rear cameras in both dim light as well as under bright sunlight. The snaps clicked from the rear camera were decent but lacked detailing. Interestingly flash was quite effective in illuminating objects while taking close up shots. On the other hand front camera was just decent but as the tablet was not having a SIM I could not make a video call. Ofcourse this is not our final verdict; there are many more aspects about its camera that we can only check out in an in-depth review.
Digiflip Pro XT 712 is loaded with 16 GB of internal storage, of which approximately 13 GB is user-accessible and its quad-core processor is supported by 1 GB of RAM. It also gives users to further add 32 GB memory via a micro SD card. In this department it has specs which are better than the other budget tablets available in the market.
During initial usage I couldn’t find any lag in the device but I will be able to share more information about its performance only after a detailed review.
To push the sales of the tablet Flipkart has announced some freebies including free eBooks worth Rs 2,000 and shopping benefits worth Rs 5,000 on purchase of the tablet. Apart from that 50 per cent discount on covers can be availed which come with a price tag of Rs 749.
