Good news for Xiaomi smartphone users: 10 phones getting Android Pie update

The budget Redmi Y2 was launched in the summer of 2018 for a starting price of Rs 9,999 but has since gone down to Rs 8,999.

The Redmi Y2 was also present on the list of smartphones to get Android Pie in the very near future and it could get the update sometime in the next few weeks. As for the specifications, the Redmi Y2 comes with a 5.99-inch HD+ display with 1440 x 720 pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. On the camera front, the Redmi Y2 has a 12-megapixel primary camera with PDAF, LED Flash and 5-megapixel secondary camera for AI portrait shots. For the front, the device has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies.

It is powered with a 2GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core Processor with Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB/4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of internal storage and a 3,080mAh battery. For Rs 8,999, the Redmi Y2 could well be the cheapest option to make the most out on Android Pie.

Xiaomi is bringing the Android Pie update to its year-old smartphone and this will be the third biggest update on the phone after it received updates to Android Oreo and MIUI 10 last year. The Redmi Note features 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, a colour contrast ratio of 1000:1 and 450-nits brightness.

It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor along with Adreno 506 GPU. The Note 5 has a 12-megapixel primary lens with 1.25-micron pixel and f/2.2 aperture, while for the front, there is a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and Beautify 3.0. The device is fuelled by a 4,000mah battery.

The Redmi Note 5 will be getting an update to Android Pie in the coming weeks. The device is currently selling on Flipkart for Rs 9,999 and if you buy it now, it’ll be one of the few affordable phones to run on Android Pie.

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Note 3 back in September 2017 as a mid-range smartphone. The smartphone featured a four side curved glass body and comes with a 5.5 inch full HD display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

On the inside, it was powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor and Adreno 540 GPU. It came with a dual rear camera setup comprising of a 12MP primary wide-angle lens with 1.25?m pixel size, f/1.8 aperture, dual-tone LED flash, 4-axis OIS, 4K video recording and a 12MP secondary camera with telephone lens, with 1.0 ?m pixel size, 52mm portrait lens, f/2.6 aperture.

For selfies, it came with a 16MP shooter of 2um pixel size and features adaptable AI Beautify options. Android Pie on the Mi Note 3 will be the third major update to the device which initially came running Android Nougat and MIUI 9.

The bezel-less experiment of a smartphone which was the Mi Mix 2 was launched in October 2017 for a price of Rs 35,999 but since then, the price of the phone has gone down to Rs 29,999.

Xiaomi has revealed that Android Pie will be coming to the phone during the second quarter of this year and it’ll be the third major update to the device considering that it launched with MIUI 9 and Android Nougat. The Mi Mix 2 features a 5.99-inch (2160 x 1080) Super AMOLED with an 18:9 full-screen display and a bezel-less display.

It is powered by 2.45 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 64-bit processor coupled with 6GB RAM, 128 internal storage, Adreno 540 GPU and 3400mAh battery. It offers a 12-megapixel Autofocus rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX386 sensor, 4-axis OIS, f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens, PDAF, HDR. For the front, there is a 5-megapixel camera that supports face recognition and also has autofocus.

Launching during the early part of 2017, the Xiaomi Mi 6 featured a 5.15-inch Full HD (1080p) display. The Mi 6 has glass on the front and back with a stainless steel frame in between.

It is powered by a latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 64 bit octa-core processor clocked at 2.45GHz, which is clubbed with Adreno 540 GPU, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. The device initially ran on Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system with MIUI 8 on top of it and Android Pie will be a welcome change to the phone once it rolls out in the second quarter of 2019.

On the camera front, the Mi 6 has two 12-megapixel rear cameras, one with a wide-angle lens and 4-axis Optical Image stabilisation while the other is a 12-megapixel telephoto camera for 2x lossless zoom. On its front, it has an 8-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calling.

Xiaomi is still selling last year’s Redmi 6A as its budget smartphone for a starting price of Rs 5,999 and has now revealed that the Redmi 6A will also get Android 9 Pie in Q2 2019.

The device features a 5.45-inch HD+ IPS display with 720 x 1440 pixel resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core processor along with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage.

It has a single 13MP rear camera with LED flash, HDR and panorama, phase-detection autofocus and a 5MP front camera. The device is backed by a 3000mAh battery and initially ran on Android 8.1 Oreo.

The price of the Redmi 6 was only slashed recently to Rs 7,999 and it has now been confirmed that the device will run on Google’s latest Android Pie interface.

The Redmi 6 sports a 5.45-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) with an 18:9 aspect ratio, runs MIUI 9.6 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box and powered by MediaTek Helio P22 SoC.

It has 3,000mAh battery with support for 5W charging, dual rear cameras with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor and a 5-megapixel front camera.

Last month, Xiaomi launched the global variant of the Mi 9 smartphone which was first launched in China. The Mi 9 features a 6.39-inch full HD+ S-AMOLED display with waterdrop notch. The display comes with 600-nit brightness, Sunlight mode 2.0, Reading mode 2.0, Always-on Display and 103.8 percent NTSC wide colour gamut.

The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Chipset coupled with 6GB/8GB/12GB RAM. The Xiaomi phone features a rear-mounted triple camera setup with a combination of Sony IMX586 48-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens and 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x Optical Zoom support. On the front side, the phone is fitted with a 20-megapixel selfie camera.

The Mi 6X is also getting an update to Android Pie and it’s the MIUI-based sibling to the Mi A2 which launched in India. The device features a metallic unibody and it comes loaded with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with 2160 × 1080 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio.

The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. On the camera front, the device features a dual-camera setup with a combination of 12-megapixel primary lens with f/1.75 Aperture and 1.25-micron pixel size, Sony IMX486 sensor along with a secondary 20-megapixel with f/1.75 aperture and 2-micron pixel size, Sony IMX376 sensor.

For the front, there is a 20-megapixel shooter with Sony IMX376 sensor and LED flash. Xiaomi Mi 6X is backed by a 3010 mAh battery.

Xiaomi announced the Redmi 6 Pro last year and the device is still selling hot for a starting price of Rs 8,999. The company has now also announced that it has started internal testing of Android Pie on the phone, meaning the device will soon get an update to Google’s latest mobile OS.

To recall, the Redmi 6 Pro has a 5.84-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) notched display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, Adreno 506 GPU and 4,000mAh battery. For storage, it has 3/4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of internal storage with expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB) It has a dual rear camera with a combination of 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor and a 5-megapixel front camera sensor for selfies.
