Asus will release its much speculated Zenfone 3 series of smartphones this June, according to Asus’s chief executive officer Jerry Shen.
Shen added that the Zenfone 3 smartphones will be available in the mid-range segment. Following the launch, ASUS Zenfone phones will be available in six countries this upcoming August, he added.
Asus earlier was expected to release ZenFone 3 series smartphones on May 30, ahead of Computex event.
Shen revealed that the ZenFone 3 Max will make up nearly two-thirds of total ZenFone 3 shipments with the ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3 estimated to account for the remaining one-third of shipments. However, Asus CEO did not reveal anything about the specs of the upcoming ZenFone 3 smartphones
Shen added that this year 90 percent of the ZenFone 3 smartphones will be powered by Qualcomm processor while 10 percent will be powered by MediaTek chipset. Due to strong sales in Southeast Asia, Brazil, Russia and Europe, Asus has seen a 40% growth in smartphone revenue for the first quarter of this year. Shen said that Asus will go in for $300+ segment now in order to compete with Huawei and Oppo.
Last month, Asus Zenfone 3 and Zenfone 3 Deluxe were found listed on Red Dot website.
According to the site’s description, the Zenfone 3 will be featuring 2.5D glass on the front and back with a curved aluminum frame. As per the site, the device has a USB Type-C port, a fingerprint sensor, laser Autofocus and dual tone LED flash for the camera. There’s also support for an optional Smart Flip Cover. As per the images, the Zenfone 3 will come in gold, silver and black colour options.
In the website, there was an image of Zenfone 3 Deluxe as per which the device has a physical button below the display, a side lock button and a front LED flash. It seems to have a full metal body.
Back in January, two alleged ZenFone 3 smartphones were spotted at benchmark listings and were codenamed Z010DD and Z012D. According to the GFXBench benchmark listing, the Asus Z010DD has a 5.9-inch HD (1280×720 pixel) IPS display, 1.5 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The smartphone listed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, ofcourse along with ZenUI. Furthermore, the handset has a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera, as was spotted on the website. Besides, it has Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, accelerometer, compass, light sensor and proximity sensor.
On the other hand, Asus Z012D feature a 5.5-inch FHD (1920×1080 pixel) IPS display, the 1.7 GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, 3GB RAM, Adreno 510 GPU and 32GB of storage of internal storage. It too was listed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with ZenUI, Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, accelerometer, barometer, compass, gyroscope, lightsensor, pedometer and proximity sensor. However, there was no information about its rear or front camera.
