The YouTube application on Windows Phone 7 is inferior to the version found in Android and iOS devices, Microsoft has alleged.
In a complaint against Google filed with the anti trust regulators of Europe, Microsoft said that the YouTube App on Windows lacks a lot of features compared to its Android and iOS versions.
The Microsoft complaint says that Google does not allow Windows Phone to search videos or view ratings on the YouTube WinPho app.
Microsoft suggests that Google’s behaviour is against fair competition in significant fields such as online advertising, search and smartphone operating systems.
“Unfortunately, Google has engaged in a broadening pattern of walling off access to content and data that competitors need (in order) to provide search results to consumers and to attract advertisers,” Brad Smith, senior vice president and general counsel, Microsoft, said in his blog.
Google enjoys a higher market share in Europe than it does in the USA, where Microsoft enjoys close to 25 per cent of the search market along with Yahoo (both the companies work together).
