Yahoo has released a revamped version of its mobile news applications with the name Yahoo Newsroom. The App is available for both Android and iOS and provide latest news in a new interface.
The algorithm used by Yahoo Newsroom is similar to what is used by Google and Facebook in offering personalized news according to the preference of different users.
“In moving to a very community powered approach, we wanted to give the app a distinct identity around news and a place where people are going to come to have conversations around news,” Yahoo vice president Simon Khalaf told AFP while unveiling the application on October 4.
Apart from different news stories, the app also lets you dive in the world of different trending topics which are referred as Vibes which can be further categorized by choosing certain subjects.
Yahoo said in a blog post: “You can now post articles from around the web – with your reactions – directly into specific Vibes to spark a discussion. “With Newsroom, we’ve combined this best-in-class content from Yahoo and around the web with community empowerment.”
Further, following the major hack which took place back in 2014, Yahoo’s core business is on verge of being acquired by US based carrier Verizon. The hack actually affected about 500 millions users across the globe, claimed Yahoo. Nevertheless, the new Yahoo Newsroom definitely looks promising and brought back old memories when Yahoo News was one of the most reliable news source. As of now, Google and Facebook remains the top most used websites for news and other trending stories.
