Xiaomi rolls out MIUI 8.2 for select devices, brings new features and enhancements

The new update still doesn’t bring Android Nougat for most of them but is a welcome update over the current MIUI 8, nevertheless.

Xiaomi has finally started rolling out stable MIUI 8.2 update for select devices. The new update still doesn’t bring Nougat for most of them but is a welcome update over the current MIUI 8, nevertheless. Also, the smart assistant hasn’t been added to the China version of stable ROM. As of now, the update has just been rolled out to Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Mi 4i, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, Redmi 1S and Redmi Note 4G. Other devices such asRedmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm, Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note 4 MTK, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note Prime, Mi 2/2S, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Redmi 3/Prime, Redmi 3S/Prime and Redmi Note 4 Qualcomm variant will receive the update starting from 20th February 2017.

If you are not aware, Xiaomi has already rolled out the beta build of Android Nougat with MIUI 8.2. Meanwhile, Mi 5 is the only device up till now who has got MIUI 8.2 update. Also, we are not sure when will the update hit devices in India as there has been no mention about the same by Xiaomi.

To summarise, the new MIUI 8.2 update brings a new improved quick settings toggle layout in the notification panel, ability to fully control automated tasks and some new system sounds and ringtones. Other than this, the new update also brings a bunch of new enhancements such as ‘swipe to delete lock-screen notifications’, and the ability to totally disable floating notifications while in DND mode. Other fixes include notifications shade issue fix during incoming calls, fix to inability to remove first notification by swipe, landscape mode issues with third party themes etc. Further, the settings menu now has ‘Home Screen’ settings as well and the new VirusScan feature that will scan apps which are not installed from Google Play Store.

If your device is in the update list, head on to ‘Updater’ and check for new updates or else you can also flash the latest update via fastboot,however, that is a more complicated process and would require working knowledge of fastboot and cmd commands.
