Xiaomi has started rolling out the latest MIUI 9 update to its recently-launched Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite in India. The update brings lots of new features, bug fixes and improvements.
One can check for the latest update by going to Settings> About Phone > Check for updates. Interestingly, the company promised that the MIUI 9 update for Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite would commence from mid-November.
Talking about MIUI 9, Xiaomi has finally added split-screen functionality which would now allow you to use two apps simultaneously. Adding a pinch of smartness to the UI, the new MIUI 9 comes with smart image search, smart assistant, and smart App launcher. Also, notifications are now bundled and ‘Quick Reply’ has finally made its way to MIUI.
There is also a new Smart Photo Editing tool, through which one will be able to remove unwanted objects from photos and can even add special fun stickers. Other than this, a new Mi Video App is being introduced as well.
Further, Xiaomi has added IRCTC Card recognizes option. It converts a PNR SMS into a systematic card form, with all important information on it. Other than this, now the MIUI 9 comes with an Indian Calendar app with subscription cards like Indian festivals cards, punching calendar and much more.

To recall, Xiaomi introduced a new Y-series in India with the launch of Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite. The Redmi Y1 comes with a price tag of Rs 8,999 for the 3GB RAM variant, while the 4GB RAM variant comes is priced at Rs 10,999. The Redmi Y1 Lite is priced at Rs 6,999. Both the smartphones will be available in Gold and Dark Gray colour options.
