Xiaomi India has slashed Redmi 2’s price by Rs 1,000 today. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 would now cost Rs 5,999 against its earlier price tag of Rs 6,999. Recently, Xiaomi India had reduced the price of Xiaomi Mi 4 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G and it seems like a planned strategy to reduce the price of the old Xiaomi handsets that are being sold in the market.
Redmi 2 first went on sale in India in March this year. It was Xiaomi’s first phone to use a 64-bit processor, and also the first to support 4G dual-SIM.
In terms of looks, Xiaomi Redmi 2 is not much different from its predecessor. But it is actually shorter, narrower and thinner than the original Redmi design. Its dimensions are 134 x 67.2 x 9.4 mm, compared to the Redmi 1S’ 137 x 69 x 9.9 mm. To check its pictures, click.
The Redmi 2 offers a 4.7 inch HD IPS display as the Redmi 1S. The Redmi 2 has a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 quad core processor while its predecessor has Snapdragon 400 quad core processor. It has 8 GB Internal Memory and 1 GB RAM.
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 has an 8 Megapixel rear camera as the older Redmi 1S while the front camera is bumped to 2 megapixel from 1.6 MP of Redmi 1S. The Redmi 2 is based on Android 4.4 and comes with WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM, and dual SIM – both the SIM slots can carry 4G SIMs. It has USB OTG support and has GPS with GLONASS and Beidou for navigation.
