Xiaomi has dropped in some good news for Poco F1 users. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has assured that their latest device under its Poco sub-brand will be stay covered for major Android updates at least for the next two years.
The news comes from Poco Global Head of Product, Jai Mani who revealed in a tweet that the Poco F1 smartphone will ‘at least’ receive Android 9 Pie and Android Q updates. This means, the latest smartphone from Poco will not only get this year’s Android Pie update but will also receive Android Q when Google releases it next year.
This kind of promise from the company means the Poco F1 will stay protected with the latest updates at least for the next two years or more. With this news, Xiaomi looks to follow in on the footsteps of OnePlus which has been releasing stable updates for their smartphones on a regular basis.
The Poco F1 initially came with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and is soon expected to run the latest Android 9 Pie in the next few weeks. With the latest piece of news, the Poco F1 will come with similar software coverage as that of the Pixel from Google which gets two years of major Android software alongside three years of security updates.
Xiaomi is also in talks with Qualcomm and Google to release an update to the Poco F1 to roll out Widevine L1 support so that users will be able to stream HD content on Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos. Poco has also confirmed that it will roll out the stable version of MIUI 10 for the Poco F1 sometime next week.
