Xiaomi Mi Max Prime vs LeEco Le Max 2

Though both the devices serve the same purpose but we think that Mi Max Prime is too big to be called a smartphone. It is indeed more of a phablet.

Xiaomi has finally launched a new revised version of Mi Max with the name Mi Max Prime at Rs 19,999. The device is available on Mi India website as well as Amazon India. Another device with a similar idea behind it is LeEco’s Le Max 2 (4GB RAM) which was launched back in May 2016. Both of them offer promising specifications at this price with Le Max 2 right now available for Rs 17,999 at Amazon’s Great India Festival Sale while the original price is Rs 22,999. Let’s compare these two devices on paper and find out which one is a better buy at this price range.

Design and Display

LeEco Le Max 2 comes with a metallic uni-body design which looks extremely premium. Further, it also comes in a Rose Gold colour variant. Up front complimenting that design is a 5.7 inch Quad display with 515 density. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi Max Prime also comes with a beautiful metallic design which surrounds a massive 6.44 inch Full HD display offering a of 342ppi. Both the devices sport a fingerprint scanner at the back. The display on the Le Max 2 is certainly better and also it comes at a smaller size which is more compact and easy to use. Mi Max Prime is certainly not for you if you have smaller than average hands.

Processor and Memory

Jumping to the inside, the newly launched Mi Max Prime sports a 1.8GHz ARM Cortex A72 + ARM Cortex A53 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 octa core processor with Adreno 510 for graphics and 4GB RAM for multi-tasking. On the other hand, LeEco Le Max 2 comes with 2.15GHz Kryo + 1.6GHz Kryo Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 quad core processor which is coupled with Adreno 530 GPU for graphics and 4GB RAM. The processor on Le Max 2 is apparently powerful and will perform better in situations like heavy gaming. Regarding the internal storage, Mi Max Prime comes with a massive 128GB internal storage which can be further expanded up to 256GB while we think it wont be much necessary. On the other hand, Le Max 2 comes with 32GB internal storage which is not expandable. Well, in this department, Mi Max Prime has the upper hand. Both the devices run on Marshmallow out of the box with EUI 5.6 on Le Max 2 and MIUI on Mi Max Prime.

Camera

Xiaomi has always been known to offer some good camera performances at affordable prices. The Mi Max Prime features a 16MP primary camera with 5p lens, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF auto focus, two tone flash, HDR, 120fps slow mo capture. Up front, it has a 5MP front facing camera.

Whereas, Le Max 2 boasts a 21MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1/2.4 inches sensor size, PDAF, close loop, auto focus, manual focus, HDR, scene mode, recording, slow motion recording, optical image stabilization, timer and on the other side it sports an 8MP front facing camera.

On paper, LeEco’s Le Max 2 certainly looks better than Xiaomi’s Mi Max Prime. Though we can’t just rely on megapixels so we will have to push both these cameras head to head in order to come to a conclusion.

Battery and Connectivity

Battery is one of the most important feature of a smartphone these days and Xiaomi’s Mi Max Prime looks good in that with a massive 4850 lithium-polymer battery that must be enough for a device even of this size. Whereas, Le Max 2 comes with a 3100 mAh non-removable lithium-ion battery which, LeEco claims, can provide a talk-time of 36 hours and standby time of 310 hours. Though, Mi Max Prime is much larger device but the battery life on it will be still better than Le Max 2.

Both the devices come with the necessary connectivity options including WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and GPS. The Le Max 2 has v4.2 while Mi Max Prime has v4.1. Also, one should note that Le Max 2 comes with USB port for charging and data syncing while Mi Max Prime comes with standard micro USB.

Wrapping Up

Though both the devices serve the same purpose but we think that Mi Max Prime is too big to be called a smartphone. It is more of a tablet. Le Max 2 has a better display, processor but lacks expandable storage. It also seems to have a better camera but doesn’t have much larger battery for a 5.7 inch device. Mi Max Prime on the other hand has an impressive battery on paper and also comes with 128GB internal storage which is expandable. Well, Le Max 2 is better choice if you can deal with the 32GB internal storage which might be a problem for some. Further, Le Max 2 is also available at a cheaper price at the time of writing this story.
