Xiaomi has always been looking to capture different markets with its affordable products and top functionality. Apart from conquering the budget smartphone segment, the company has already introduced its own earphones, power banks, Notebooks and smartwatches. Further, the company is now looking to enter the camera market using the brand name Xiaoyi. Yesterday, Xiaomi announced a new mirror-less camera – Xiaoyi M1.
Previously, the company has also launched an action camera with the same name. The Xiaoyi M1 features a 20 Megapixel Sony image sensor (IMX269). According the reports, the IMX269 is a micro four thirds sensor which Xiaomi claims can offer much better image qualities than compact cameras. The camera has been launched at Yuan 2199 which is around Rs 22,000. However, this price is only for the M1 with one lens. The dual-lens kit was revealed for the price of Yuan 2,999.
Following the same price pattern, this is comparatively an aggressive price strategy by Xiaomi.
The Xiaoyi M1 comes with two lenses, a 12-40mm lens with f/3.5-5.6 Aperture and 42.5mm lens with f/1.8 aperture. Both the lenses offer up to 25,600 ISO sensitivity and the camera body also features a 3-inch touchscreen. The camera can also be controlled with the smartphone with various connectivity options. Other than this, there are over 50 lenses available on the product page already so that’s another bonus. Latest reports suggest that Xiaomi has made this possible by partnering with existing camera maker that has enables it to manufacture such variety of lens in such a short span of time.
Xiaomi has once again released a product which offers best specifications at its price. But it will be interesting to see how this camera stands in the market which is continuously falling apart given the smartphones these days are coming with such powerful camera sensors. Recently, a new phone from Xiaomi was also spotted and it is likely to be XIaomi’s Mi 5S which the company is expected to launch soon.
