Xiaomi introduces early access programme to test Android 9.0 Pie on Mi TV 4A series

The company has announced the new update to Mi TV 4A 32-inch and 43-inch models.

Xiaomi has announced that it is currently looking for users to test the latest 9.0 Pie update for its Mi TV 4A Smart TV series. The company has announced the new update to Mi TV 4A 32-inch and 43-inch models.

Interested users can opt for the Mi TV Early Access Program by going to company’s official forum. The brand has revealed that it is looking for 50 active Mi fans, which will be selected on July 20, 2019, at 11:59:59 hours. The names will be announced on Mi Community.

The company has revealed that while an update to the latest ROM, there is a chance of Mi TVs to get softly bricked. This might happen when the electricity goes off during the updating process. The company says that one needs to call the service engineer to un-brick the Smart TV.

The company is skipping the Android 8.0 Oreo and it will roll out Android 9.0 Pie update to the Mi TV 4A series. The new update will bring a host of interesting features and the TVs will support Android TV. With this, users will get Play Store, Google Assistant, Play Movies, Play Music and built-in Chromecast support.

However, it is important to note that Google Assistant will not work directly with these Mi TVs as these don’t support BLE, meaning that there is no voice remote support. But one can use Android smartphone or Google Home devices to play movies etc over Chromecast protocol.

To recall, both the Smart TVs were launched in India in 2018. The Mi TV 4A 32-inch comes with a price tag of Rs 12,999, while the Mi TV 4A 43-inch is priced at Rs 22,999. Both the Smart TVs run on Xiaomi’s PatchWall
