Sling Media has launched SlingPlayer App for tablets running versions 3.0 or later of the Android operating system. Available for purchase on the Android Market, the application lets Slingbox owners extend their living room TV experience to their tablets.
Sling Media’s Slingbox allows consumers to watch and control their living room television shows at any time, from any location, using internet-connected PCs, Macs, PDAs, tablets and smartphones.
“A Slingbox is the perfect accessory to an Android tablet. When combined with SlingPlayer, now anyone with an Android device can enjoy a beautiful, personalized TV experience anywhere in the world,” said Raman Venkatachar, general manager and head of operations at Sling Media.
When connected to a Slingbox 120 or PRO-HD, the SlingPlayer software enables users to watch their favourite shows anywhere they have an Internet or cellular connection. They can change channels, watch live programming, and control video sources such as: cable or satellite set-top box and DVR, Telco/IPTV set-top box and DVR, basic cable, digital over-the-air broadcasts (Slingbox PRO-HD only), TiVo, Apple TV and home security cameras.
SlingPlayer for Android tablets is available now for Rs 1,477, from the Android Market.
“The application for Android Phones will continue to work in “Compatibility Mode” on tablets at no extra charge. The Android phone version of the application streams from all Slingboxes, but not at the higher quality resolutions available on tablet devices,” the company said in a release.
