German carmaker, Volkswagen is reportedly planning to launch a new version of Polo GTI hatchback in India. This will be the sixth generation of Polo GTI.
The car will have a new MQB platform. However, the problem for Volkswagen is that if it decides to launch it now, then it will have to import the platform which will make the car quite costly. The company launched the first Polo GTI in India at an exorbitant price of Rs 26 lakh but later had to offer it at a discount to attract buyers.Currently, the car is being offered for a starting price of Rs 20 lakh.
Volkswagen India reported a 15 percent growth in car sales in March this year. Its high-end Tiguan and Passat have reported huge demands. It has recently introduced Polo 1.0L MPI as well as two limited edition cars, the Polo Pace and Vento Sport. The company also in April launched the 1.0-liter version of Ameo and announced a version of the car called Ameo Pace.
The new Ameo Pace comes with a 999 cc engine that claimed to produce 76hp at 6,200rpm and 95Nm torque at 3,000-4,300rpm. The new engine is compliant with BS-VI norms. Like the older Ameo, the new engine has five-speed gear system.
The Ameo with the new engine will still be offered in the existing five variants that include Trendline (Rs 5.5 lakh), Comfortline (Rs 6.14 lakh), Comfortline Plus (Rs 6.44 lakh), Highline (Rs 7.15 lakh) and Highline Plus (Rs 7.45 lakh) (all prices ex-showroom).
