While Airtel recently introduced a price hike for its base which increased from Rs 99 to Rs 155, Vodafone Idea wants to take full advantage of the opportunity and has launched a new Rs 99 prepaid plan, overtaking both Airtel and Jio when it comes to offering the cheapest prepaid plan to users.

With the introduction of the Rs 99 prepaid plan, “Vodafone Idea is the only pan-India, high speed data network which is offering essential mobile connectivity with both voice and data services to consumers at this price point”, says the telecom operator.

Vi’s 99 plan offers Rs 99 talktime where there’s a charge of 2.5 paise per second, and 200 data with a validity period of 28 days. Outgoing are not available with this plan. The plan is now available via the Vi website and the Vi app.

In comparison, Reliance Jio’s cheapest plan costs Rs 119 which has a validity of 14 days with 1.5GB data available per day, unlimited calls and a total of 300 SMSes. As for Airtel’s cheapest prepaid plan, it costs Rs 155 and has unlimited voice calls, 1 of data, and 300 SMS for a validity of 24 days.

Both Jio and Airtel’s plan do not even last a month while Vi’s plan does. However, that seems to be the only advantage with a bunch of caveats, such as no unlimited calls and SMS, and less amount of data.

In related news to Vodafone Idea, it remains the only operator who hasn’t begun the rollout of 5G more widely. Currently, Vi 5G is available only to users in Delhi at select locations such as Pragati Maidan. There’s no update regarding when it would come to more regions.
