Vivo launched its APEX Concept smartphone in March last year which soon went on to be labelled as the Vivo NEX when the device went into mass production. Now the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed the announcement of a new APEX 2019 smartphone which will be a successor to last year’s APEX smartphone. The Vivo APEX 2019 will be unveiled on January 24.
The confirmation comes through Vivo’s official Weibo account which posted a teaser picture of the phone with the date “2019.01.24” stamped at the bottom. In the image is a smartphone with a curved screen on the edges and corners with the display showing a ripple effect created by a water droplet. The teaser image comes with a caption that translates to “A year ago, Vivo APEX portrayed a new world of full screens. A year later, Vivo APEX 2019 evolved again, using technology to wake up to the future. See you on January 24.”
With an all-screen technology in mind, we can expect Vivo to employ a pop-up camera or a slider or a secondary display to house the front camera. Several reports indicate that the APEX 2019 might come with a half screen in-display fingerprint scanner and there might no room for physical button anywhere on the device. The device has been codenamed as “The Waterdrop”, meaning there could be pressure-sensitive edges and gesture navigation on the smartphone.
Last year’s APEX smartphone was powered by a Snapdragon 845 Chipset and it’s only logical to think that the APEX 2019 will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 chip on the inside. The device may also equip a larger memory with a possibility of 12GB RAM likely to be launched.
The Vivo APEX 2019 will be unveiled on January 24 and we might see Vivo showcase the device during the Mobile World Congress 2019 next month.
