Videocon Telecommunications will complete its launch in the Tamil Nadu and Chennai circles with its GSM service on March 25. The company launched its service in Coimbatore on March 15.
A senior company official, who did not wish to be named, told Telecom Yatra that the company will launch the service in the remaining cities of Tamil Nadu and Chennai circle by March 25.
Videocon is rolling out its service under the brand name Videocon Mobile Services, and the launch will mark Videocon’s official entry into the telecom service industry in India. The company has a license to offer telecom services in 21 circles across the country.
Videocon is currently offering prepaid services in Coimbatore with a base plan that costs Rs 45 for lifetime validity and talktime worth Rs 5 with all local calls at Re 1 per minute and STD calls at Rs 1.50 per minute. To avail the lifetime validity, a subscriber has to do a cumulative recharge of at least Rs 200 every six months. Subscribers will be charged at Re 1 for local SMS, Rs 1.50 for national SMS and Rs 5 for international SMS. The prepaid connection is available at all Videocon Mobile Shops, Next outlets and Planet M outlets.
Videocon Industries, the parent company of Videocon Telecommunications Limited, is a Rs 25,000 crore global conglomerate with a presence in household consumer goods, oil and gas, retail and the power sector.
