Viber today announced the launch of its new application, Viber 4.1, for Android and iOS platforms. The new Viber 4.1 comes with Viber Out, a new feature that allows its users to make international calls. The Viber 4.1 with Viber Out is available in India also. The company has also claimed that its service is cheaper than that of Skype (see image).
Viber Out is the low-cost calling option offered in the Viber 4.1 app. This service is similar to the Skype Out offered by Skype and NimbuzzOut of Nimbuzz. Last month Nimbuzz announced the new Pay As You Go calls package offering 1.59 cents (almost Rs 1) for calling any landline or mobile phone in India. That is the cheapest compared to Viber Out and even Skype Out.
With the worldwide availability, the Viber Out offers calling to Indian landlines at Rs 1.5 and mobile phones at Rs 3 per minute from anywhere in the world.
Using Viber Out, Indian users can make calls to US at Rs 1.17 per minute to landlines and mobile phones. For the UK, Rs 1.17 per minute is charged for landlines and Rs 3.62 per minute for mobile phones.
Do note here that the Viber Out users will have to make the call by connecting the App to a data network or WiFi connection (preferable).
The Viber application also allows chatting and sending stickers/photos/audio clips/videos.
