We Indians love our food, and why not, we have such a variety to choose from. Here are five food apps that have seen maximum downloads from Mobango, an app store for free mobile applications.

These five apps will help you find good places to eat, teach you how to cook your favourite recipes, and will tell you the nutritional value of the food you eat.

1. Zomato:

Zomato.com lets you search menus across 14,000 restaurants in India, spanning eight cities: Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Zomato lets you check ratings, reviews and discounts at all major restaurants in your city.

The version of Zomato also recommends the best restaurants around your current location. This is free and works on Android and BlackBerry phones.

2. Cakes and Deserts:

The app gives you cooking tips and more. It provides 20 cake and dessert recipes with images. It also allows you to post on Facebook and tweet messages from within the app. The application works on Android and is available for free.

3. Chinese Cuisine:

Chinese Cuisine is defined by carefully balanced flavours and time-tested techniques that call for maximal preparation before minimal cooking. Now, you can cook your favourite Chinese food (meat, seafoods and vegetables) by yourself.

Try it and learn the techniques. The application is available free for Android phones.

4. Veggie Tangy:

This application is especially for vegetarians. There are several vegetarian food recipes in it.

You can send a recipe to another user through email or SMS. Also, you can tweet it or post it on your Facebook wall. It is available for Android phones though it is not available from Android Market.

5. Sanjeev Kapoor’s Low Calorie Vegetarian Cook-Book:

This offering from Sanjeev Kapoor is a fresh and new collection of low calorie veggie recipes for the health conscious. It has the choicest recipes of soups, starters, appetizers, main course dishes and desserts.

In the Low Calorie Vegetarian Cook-Book, the maestro delves deep into his chef’s hat and produces a truly veggie delight! Now you can have your cake and eat it too, without putting on the extra flab!

Unfortunately, this app is only available for Windows Phones. The iPad version is available from the iTunes Store.
