Thomson, a France-based Technicolor SA-owned consumer electronics brand, will re-enter Indian television market after a gap of almost 14 years. The company is all set to unveil its latest product on for the Indian market on April 12.
Thomson has started sending out media invites for the event, which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi at 4:00 PM IST. Thomson has been known to sell TVs, digital set-top boxes, digital imaging, LCD monitors, healthcare, lighting and some automaton products. Taking its LED and Ultra HD TVs out of the equation, Thomson currently sells seven different series of Smart TVs in Europe, all of which is connected through DLNA for easy access of content stored on devices connected to a user’s home network. Moreover, Thomson currently offers its Smart TVs in various sizes ranging up to 78-inches.
this is not for the first time, Thomson is making a bid to come back to India. The last one being in 2015, when they had proposed investment of Rs 300 crore in Resolute Electronics India who are into electronics manufacturing services. They even made them brand-licensee of Thomson and permission to manufacture LED TVs as well as large and small kitchen appliances for the Indian market. Unfortunately, nothing materialized at that time.
When we spoke to Thomson spokesperson they didn’t share the name of its licensing partners in India but they did confirm that Resolute Electronics India is no more their brand-licensee. Thomson in all likelihood is going to launch a couple of Smart TV is different price points and that too on online shopping platform.
