Google announced the Android Q Developer Preview in March this year and later announced new features of the upcoming OS at its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2019 last month. Amongst the 21 devices set to run Android Q Beta, Google has also partnered with Xiaomi to roll out beta software of the latest mobile OS to the Mi MIX 3 5G and the Mi 9 and now Xiaomi has announced Android Q will arrive in stable form to nine of its smartphones this year followed by some more early next year.
Through a post on the MIUI forum, Xiaomi has revealed a list of nine smartphones that it will roll out Android Q update to. The company has also disclosed that these smartphones will get Android Q before the end of this year, possibly in Q4 2019. The list includes:
Xiaomi Mi 9
Xiaomi Mi 9 SE
Xiaomi Mi 8
Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition
Xiaomi Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
Xiaomi Redmi K20
Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro
Xiaomi has also added two mode devices to the Android Q rollout schedule. The Chinese company has mentioned that the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro will get updated to Android Q in the first quarter of 2020.
It’s important to note that the schedule applies to Chinese models of these Xiaomi phones and the availability of Android Q on global models will only be revealed at a later time. What this means is, Android Q update on Indian variants of these phones will only come after their Chinese versions get the scheduled update.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is also working on MIUI 11 which is also slated for a launch later this year. MIUI 11 will add a system-wide Dark mode, ultimate power saving mode, a new set of system icons with a unified design and automatic screenshot deletion to Xiaomi phones.
