It has been two months since Google officially released the Android 7.0 Nougat update. Further, this year Google decided to release the new Android version before it unveiled its own devices i.e. Pixel and Pixel XL. In fact, the first smartphone to come with Android 7.0 running out of the box was LG’s V20.
With its Pixel devices, Google released an improved version of Android Nougat with some Pixel specific features such as the Google Assistant and Pixel Launcher.
However, you must be wondering if your device will ever be able to get a taste of the Android Nougat. For that, we have summed up smartphones from all the major OEMs who will get the Android 7.0 Nougat.
Nexus Devices
As they say, family first. The Nexus family of phones from Google will get the updates straight from the search engine giant, so no scope of delay there.
In fact, if you own a Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Pixel C tablet or a Nexus 9 tablet you should have got the update notification already. Further, last week Google also released Android 7.1 developer preview for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Pixel C with a promise to update all the three devices by December 2016.
Motorola Devices
Motorola has gradually built a reputation for faster updates. In fact, some of the Motorola devices even got the previous android updates before Nexus devices. To add to this, last week Motorola began rolling out Android Nougat update for Moto G4 Plus so the notification must be just round the corner, Moto G4 Plus users. Apart from that the list of the devices, which the company confirms, will get Android 7.0 Nougat update are Moto G4 Play, Moto G (4th Gen), Moto G Play (4th Gen), Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen), Moto X Style, Moto X Play, Moto X Force, Droid Turbo 2, Droid Maxx 2, Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force Droid, Moto Z Play,
Moto Z Play Droid and Nexus 6 (as mentioned above).
Samsung Devices
Samsung has always been a laggard with updates mainly due to its highly customised skin. Nevertheless, the company makes sure to ensure it does not fall too far behind with updates. The list here includes only the confirmed devices but we expect this list to lengthen, as Samsung scrambles to prevent any further damage to the brand after #batterygate. As of now the list includes Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE Plus, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (Ahem! If you are one of those brave souls)
However, the Galaxy Note 5 recently received Android Marshmallow update so don’t expect Nougat update anytime soon.
LG Devices
As mentioned previously, LG already has a smartphone LG V20, running on Android 7.0 Marshmallow. LG V10, LG G4 and LG G5 will definitely get the Android Nougat update whereas we are not sure about the LG G3 as of now. Also, LG made Nexus 5X has already got a mention under Nexus header.
HTC Devices
HTC has been decent if not outstanding with its software updates. Its latest flagship HTC 10 is on top to get the latest update. Apart from HTC 10, HTC A9, HTC M9 are confirmed to get the update. While the recent devices such as HTC Desire 10 Pro and Lifestyle are also likely to taste Android 7.0 Nougat. Making HTC a frontrunner in future might be their status as the manufacturer behind the Pixel phone.
Sony Devices
Sony was one of the first companies to release the list of its devices which will receive Android 7.0 update. Though we don’t see Sony limiting the update to these devices, here is the confirmed list of devices receiving the update. Sony Xperia Z5, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, Sony Xperia Z4 tablet and Sony Xperia XA.
Android One Devices
Android One is another chapter of budget smartphones from Google so if you are seeking for latest updates but don’t want to dig your pocket, Android One is a good option. The list of Android One devices getting the update are Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1, Lava Pixel V1, Spice Dream Uno, Infinix Hot 2 and Cherry Mobile G1
One Plus Devices
Lastly, One Plus after implementing its own Oxygen OS has managed to push out the updates pretty quickly and with the recent merger of Oxygen OS and Hydrogen OS, expect your One Plus devices to get updates even sooner.
As for the list, apart from One Plus One every other One Plus smartphone is expected to get Android Nougat update. To list out, One Plus Two, One Plus X and One Plus Three all will get Android Nougat update.
