Tata Sky is reportedly working on a new hybrid Android set-top box known as tata Sky Binge+. The latest set-top box is reported to launch on December 16.
As per a report by DreamDTH, the set-top box is codenamed as ‘Prithvi’ and it is manufactured by Technicolor. The publication has also shared an image of the upcoming product. Coming to the details, the STB will be a hybrid in nature. This means that one can watch Live TV via RF cable and stream OTT content via Ethernet or WiFi connection.
The report highlights that the STB will run with the latest Android 9.0 Pie and it will be powered by a 1.8 GHz Broadcom BCM72604 B Processor along with Broadcom VideoCore V HW GPU. The STB features a 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
The latest set-top box supports 4K Resolution and it is HEVC compatible. One can also watch TV content of up to 7 days old and it will come loaded with services like Tata Sky VoD and OTT apps like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.
The report further highlights that the STB will come with a complimentary subscription to Tata Sky Binge service. For those who are not aware, the streaming service offers OTT content from players like Zee5, Hotstar, Eros Now, Hungama and SunNxt applications. The service comes with a monthly subscription of Rs 249. However, it is not clear at the moment whether one has to mandatory choose the Binge service when opting for the new Android set-top box from Tata Sky. Furthermore, there is no information about the pricing and availability of the upcoming STB.
