Spice to launch two more Android tablets

The new tablets will have bigger 9.7 inch screen size but different specification in terms of hardware. Both will be priced below Rs 20,000.

Spice Mobility, which has now shifted focus from very low end devices to mid end smart devices with Internet capability, will be launching two more tablets in the next two months.

While talking to The Mobile Indian, Payal Gaba, general manager of marketing at Spice Mobiles, said, “We will be launching two Android tablets with 9.7 inch screen. Both the devices will be priced below Rs 20,000. One of them will have top of the line specifications while the other one will be a budget tablet”.

She did not disclose the specification of the tablets. Spice has recently launched its first tablet the Mi720, which is a 7 inch Android tablet with a price tag of Rs 13,000.

The company has shifted gears recently and is now focusing on smart devices. DK Modi, chairman, Spice said, “Going forward, we will focus on smart devices that offer Internet connectivity as we believe that mobile will be the driver of Internet penetration in the country”.

He added: “We are increasing our average selling price from current level of less than Rs 2,000 to close to Rs 3,500. We will continue to challenge the MNC brands in terms of pricing, bringing more features at lesser price. Our devices will be smarter and more feature rich.”

The 9.7 inch tablet is expected to be based on 800 and 1 GHz processors from Mediatek, as spice has recently inked a deal with them. It is likely to sport Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. But for detailed picture of specifications, we will have to wait for some more time. Keep watching this space for more info on the upcoming tablet from this Indian company with global ambitions.
