Spice will launch its Android One smartphone before this year’s Diwali, according to a report of PTI. The Indian handset manufacturer also stated that it will be releasing the $25 Firefox OS smartphone as well around the same time.
Apart from Spice, Micromax, Karbonn, Celkon and Intex have reportedly joined hands with Google to launch Android One devices. Under the Android One programme, Google aims to deliver pure Android experience via budget devices. In short it is the budget version of Nexus programme though which Google has delivered many high end smartphones with pure Android operating system.
While speaking on the sidelines of Stellar 526 and 520 launch in New Delhi yesterday, Spice Retail’s chief executive officer, T M Ramakrishnan told PTI, “We will have the handsets in before Diwali. These phones are designed for driving connectivity at affordable prices. We were chosen for our innovation, we are among the chosen few to work with these global giants to bring these devices to India,”
However, he has not revealed the features of the upcoming Spice Android One phone.
Spice yesterday launched its first hexa core smartphone – the Stellar 526. It comes with the hexa core Mediatek processor, 5 inch IPS display with high definition resolution, Android KitKat operating system, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB ROM, 32 GB expandable storage slot, an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 3.2 megapixel front camera.
It also announced the Stellar 520 which too comes with the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Besides, the Spice Stellar 520 has 1 GB RAM, 4 GB internal storage, 32 GB micro SD card slot, dual SIM slots, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, GPS with A-GPS, an 8 megapixel auto focus rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera. As per Spice, the 2000 mAh battery of Stellar 520 offers “more than 4 hours of talktime and up to 200 hours of standby”. Spice is also offering a free flip cover, worth Rs 500, with this phone.
