Spectranet, which is one of the largest WiFi hotspot providers with over 1,300 hotspots in 7 metros in India, is going to offer one year of free WiFi access to people buying new smartphones from a specific handset vendor.
Talking to ‘The Mobile Indian’, a Spectranet spokesperson said, “We are in talks with a handset vendor and we hope to close the deal in the next 30 days. The vendor will then offer unlimited access to our WiFi network to its smartphone buyers.”
The spokesperson did not disclose the name of the handset vendor and also did not elaborate on the exact duration of the plan, saying that the offer will vary with different handsets from the vendor.
He added, “We are looking at partnerships to make it easier for people to access our hotspots to enjoy faster connectivity at lower costs.”
Spectranet also provides residential wireless Broadband through WiFi, and it provides in-building WiFi solutions to corporate and public buildings like hospitals, hotels and malls.
Spectranet, which offers WiFi hotspots in cities like Delhi, NCR (Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida), Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, is in the process of expanding its network further through partnership with property owners (malls, cafés etc).
