Sony’s cheapest Xperia phone, called the Xperia Tipo, is now available for pre-order on Flipkart for Rs 9,499. This makes it also the cheapest Android smartphone of Sony with Android 4.0.
Currently, there are many Android ICS sporting handsets from the Indian handset makers that are available for less than this price but ICS smartphones from established MNC player cost much more than the Xperia Tipo.
The Sony Xperia Tipo runs on an 800 MHz Qualcomm Scorpion processor, Adreno 200 graphics processing unit and 512 MB RAM. The phone has a 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with HVGA resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. The phone also comes with Sony’s Timescape user interface, and has a 3.2 megapixel primary camera.
Sony Xperia Tipo is a good looking handset and at 99.4 grams is lightweight as well. Sony Xperia Tipo comes with 2.5 GB Internal Memory as well as an expandable memory card slot with support up to 32 GB. The phone is powered by a 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery with promised talktime of up to 4 hours.
The phone offers regular features common on most Android phones like, 3G, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, Proximity Sensor and gravity sensor.
Sony has also used its xLOUD audio filter technology which claims to improve the audio experience for the user.
In terms of features, the phone has nothing new. However, unlike other phones in this segment, the Xperia Tipo comes with Android 4.0 while others are still using Android 2.3 with no signs of an upgrade. Though players like Micromax, Karbonn and Spice offer much better specification in this price bracket like a much bigger 5 inch screen, 1 Ghz processor etc, people who are brand conscious will find the Xperia Tipo an attractive option to jump on to Android bandwagon.
A Dual SIM version of the Xperia Tipo is also on the anvil and is likely to be priced at Rs 10,299 (the price mentioned on Flipkart.com) and is expected to be made available within this week.
