Sony has announced that it will launch a line of lightweight, elegant external batteries, called CycleEnergy. These batteries can be connected to a smartphone or a tablet through an USB port and will help the devices to have long battery life.
The range, the first to use Laminate technology of Sony that saves on weight and materials and reduces size, will include a 7,000 mAh capacity battery that measures 130.6 millimeters x 70.4mm x 12.9mm and weighs a mere 198 grams. This is roughly the same size as an average smartphone and three times the battery life of a normal smartphone.
Sony will also launch a smaller model of 3,500 mAh, as well as a number of smaller cylindrical 2000 mAh batteries, all of which are capable of doubling the battery life of an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy handset.
The batteries will available in Japanese market starting October 13 for smaller ones and November 14 for larger flat ones.
Prices will range from 2,300 Yen (Rs 1500) to 7,000 Yen (Rs 4500). Though the batteries will be launched in USA in November, Indian launch is not confirmed.
The external batteries from other makers are already available. However this new series will offer much more smaller size.
